Junior Titans Hockey Program

Fun, enthusiastic development-focused hockey program for ages 4–8 · Saturdays 10–11 AM · September–April

Program Overview

Junior Titans is a structured, development-focused hockey program at Honey & Barry Memorial Arena. We offer two groups on Saturday mornings from September to April: Learn-to-Play for beginners ages 4–6, and Junior Titans for intermediate players ages 6–8. Skating experience is required for Learn-to-Play, and some hockey expeirence is requried for Junior Titans. Each group is coached by professional non-parent coaches, so every child gets real coaching and development every week.

What sets the Junior Titans Program apart from every other hockey program in York Region is our professional non-parent coaches leading an innovative club-wide curriculum, monthly Game-Days and a season ending Championship Day, Player Report Cards to track progress, and a direct pathway into our U9 competitive team for Junior Titan graduates. The program runs for approximately 30 weeks (26–27 sessions) across the full September–April season, including monthly Game-Days and an end-of-season Championship Day.

Learn-to-Play (Ages 4–5)

Learn-to-Play is where your child's hockey journey starts. Designed for kids with limited hockey experience but who have skated before, every session is built around movement, games, and high energy — your child will be skating, handling a puck, and scoring goals from the very first session. Our coaches specialize in early-childhood development, keeping the atmosphere fun and confidence-building at every turn. By April, your child will be skating independently, controlling a puck in motion, and loving their hockey experience.

FAQs

Common Questions

Does my child need hockey experience to join?

No hockey experience is required for Learn-to-Play but all players should be able to stand and move around on the ice. Junior Titans requires that the child can skate independently on their own and has basic hockey skills. If you're unsure which group is the right fit, reach out and we'll help you decide.

What equipment is required?

Helmet with cage, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey skates, and a stick. Full hockey equipment is required at all sessions. If you need a gear checklist, reach out before the season opens — we're happy to help first-time families get set up.

What happens at a Game-Day?

Game-Days are monthly half-ice games held at the end of the month. Parents and grandparents are welcome to watch in the spectator area and see how much their kids have progressed! Teams are split by division and skill level to ensure appropriate competition. No formal scores are kept, and each half-ice game will have a referee.

How does the U9 pathway work?

Every Junior Titans (ages 6-8) family receives a personal pathway message from the head coach naming exactly where their child is developmentally and whether they're positioned to join U9 the following fall. The April Report Card includes a formal written recommendation, and head coaches are available at Championship Day for in-person conversations.
